Please VOTE for your Favorite - Mississippi Man Graphic
I'm
sharing 2 graphics of the same poem, Mississippi Man.
My dear friend, Debra Estep, is the graphic designer responsible
for illustrating my poetry.
Today, she created one, and I asked her to design another. She suggested we
put it to a VOTE. I've shared both on my Facebook page and now I'm sharing
both here....... Debra is adamant on one, and I am JUST as adamant on the other... :)
Please VOTE in your comments.

Some see the world in black and white.
Others see varying shades of gray.
But, Mississippi taught the world
to see.. and hear…. the BLUES.
Charlie Patton, Robert Johnson.
W.C. Handy, John Lee Hooker, Bo Diddley,
Muddy Waters, Howlin’ Wolf, Little Milton, B.B. King…
they all traveled the most revered blues
highway in the world .........
Mississippi’s Highway 61.
Mississippi. Birthplace of the Blues.

~ MISS NORTHSIDE ~ by Patricia Neely-Dorsey
The Miss Northside Pageant was a
"MUST SEE" event in the Northside /Park Hill Community
for over 20 years.
It was held during 4th of July week from the 60's to
the mid/late 80's. Then...gone.
I'm excited to say, this year...SHE'S BACK !!!!

~ MISS NORTHSIDE ~
Our
neighborhood beauty pageant
In the summertime
Was quite an event to see
In my 10th grade year, I decided,
The Miss Northside crown
Was waiting just for me.
I bought a stunning bathing suit
And did my stomach crunches
Advice from everywhere on how to win
Came to me in bunches.
In my high heels, around the house,
I practiced my stallion walk;
And considering the question and answer period;
I practiced how I’d talk.
For my talent, I did a ballet dance,
And I must say very well;
In my eyesight, compared to me,
The competition paled.
Our big night finally came,
And we strolled around the pool;
The (Neighbor) Hood - Back in the Day
The lights were bright
And the crowd was wild
But, I remained absolutely cool.
As it turned out,
I didn’t get that winning Miss Northside cup
But, I considered it just as well,
I got 2nd runner up.

My first book of poetry:
Reflections of a Mississippi Magnolia- A Life In Poems
*Link to book on Amazon.com*
Published February, 2008 (Grant House Publishers).
My second book of poetry:
My Magnolia Memories and Musings -In Poems
*Link to book on Amazon.com*
Published February 2012.
I call both books a "celebration of the south and things southern". Using childhood memories, personal thoughts and dreams, I attempt to give a positive glimpse into the southern way of life. There are so many negative connotations associated with Mississippi and the south in general. I want to show a flip side of the coin.
There is much to love about this maligned and misunderstood part of our country. I would really love for you to get to KNOW Mississippi (and the south) in a different light.
I have made it my life mission to be a cheerleader of
Mississippi and all things southern !!!
PLEASE come and ~FRIEND~ me on Facebook .....
Kick back, put your feet up and let's chat ....

FRONT PORCH by Patricia Neely-Dorsey
Come sit a spell . . . . . .
FRONT PORCH
(Hospitality Headquarters)
Just the spot
For taking in a cool breeze
And watching the world go by
Friends and neighbors out
For a leisurely stroll
Stop and sit a spell.
"Lemonade"?
"Iced Tea"?
“Co-Cola?”
"Did you hear about...?"
"Do Tell!"
"You Don't Say!"
"My, how the time flies"
"Y'all come back, now"
"You hear? "

Sally Kate Winters Memorial Park - West Point Mississippi
The charm of West Point Mississippi ~ the hometown of both of my parents ~
will hold you spellbound, as you stroll along her quaint downtown
sidewalks and through her picturesque park.
will hold you spellbound, as you stroll along her quaint downtown
sidewalks and through her picturesque park.
The beautiful wisteria is out in full bloom on this summer day ......
Sally Kate Winters, was the only child of Mr. and Mrs. C. Preston Winters of West Point, Mississippi. She died tragically in a car accident on April 11, 1965, just two months shy of graduation from the University of Mississippi.
The Sally Kate Winters Memorial Park was created when Mr & Mrs Winters purchased downtown property from the Illinois Central Railroad and donated it to the city and the community.
