My first book of poetry:
Reflections of a Mississippi Magnolia- A Life In Poems
*Link to book on Amazon.com*
Published  February, 2008 (Grant House Publishers).

My second book of poetry:
My Magnolia Memories and Musings -In Poems
*Link to book on Amazon.com*
Published  February 2012.

I call both books a "celebration of the south and things southern". Using childhood memories, personal thoughts and dreams, I attempt to give a positive glimpse into the southern way of life. There are so many negative connotations associated with Mississippi and the south in general. I want to show a flip side of the coin.

There is much to love about this maligned and misunderstood part of our country. I would really love for you to get to KNOW Mississippi (and the south) in a different light.

I have made it my life mission to be a cheerleader of
Mississippi and all things southern !!!
From this Magnolia Girl to all of you :

lovingly call home !

  1. Hey Patricia, You know what I love about this? Your connection to place. You provide a shining example to people interested in connecting to their own land, to their own home. When a person uses their heart to tell others about their home, their place, it impacts the other person's ability to learn in a very positive way. Good job!

    1. Thanks so much, Dave for your kind words! You do get exactly the message that I am trying to convey!
When I speak at schools, I encourage the students to be proud of who they are...proud of where they come from and proud of the lives that they live .
In the South, especially, sense of place is such an important thing !
Thanks so much for visiting my blog !
      Please DO come back !
I am SO glad you enjoyed it

  3. Miss Patricia - Can I call you that? :) I'm a yankee girl from Indiana but lived in the South most of my adult life. Two years ago I left due to a relocation and I just long for our former home in Alabama. I have many lovely friends who are also Mississippians, What a nice bunch you are.

I love Miss, we visited while our son briefly lived there and enjoyed that place you call home very much. I love your writing and poems. The Southern Rules are exactly that and we raised our son with them. Anyway I'm a follower of yours and enjoy your work very much. This tour is very exciting but I made a point to stop here first! God Bless!

  5. Good morning! I shared with friends of mine who live in the Tupelo area and north Alabama. I love how you share your experience of being Southern, a Missippian. There are a lot of misconceptions out there and a lot of outdated ideas about the south that just are not correct. You are helping people to see past all that and I commend you! Have a blessed day Miss Patricia!

  6. Your poetry is so insightful! Your words reveal the true "blessings" of being reared in the South. "Southern Man" breathes life into the ideas of what all Southern mothers want their sons to become. Thank you for putting a positive spin on our special way of life "down heah!"

  7. Hi Patricia,
I applaud you and your site in its mission of showing the POSITIVE side of Mississippi and the South. Too many people have pre-set ideas on what the South "is" and too many people get stuck on the negative without seeing the positive.
I've never been to Mississippi, but from reading your poetry, it rings true for us Texans too. :)

  8. Your poetry says all the things I love about the south. While Texas is the south, I don't quite think it has the same flavor as Georgia, where I lived. I wish I'd had more time in Mississippi when we were traveling, and I was fascinated by Louisiana swamps. Your pictures and poetry say it all.

  9. Nice poetry, Patricia! It speaks of Tennessee as well as Mississippi! My husband is an Ole Miss grad, and we love to drive back down to Oxford, a truly marvelous town. We also love the antebellum homes in Holly Springs. You will enjoy this: yesterday I cooked a mess of green beans, fried a mess of squash and a mess of okra, tossed a fresh cucumber salad, and sliced the prettiest red tomatoes we have seen in two years from our garden. Later, when the piercing sun went down ushering in a cool breeze, we sat on our front porch and visited. Ah to live in the South!

  11. Dear Patricia, Your amazing poetry is helping to 'educate' this Northerner on the Southern way of life. Thank you for sharing the She Writes Southern Writers Book Tour to me ... it's like additional classes for me. :))

I will have to say I was blessed to be the daughter of a Southern Ohio farm girl. My dad was a 'city slicker' who met, married and moved Mom up to the Cleveland area. Her farm roots never left her. I never forgot that Mom grew up without electricity and indoor plumbing. If there was a birth or a death, you went and fixed the family a meal. You did not ask if there was anything you could do, you just show up WITH THE FOOD. If I was invited over someone's home, Mom taught me you did not just walk away from the table, you grabbed a dish rag or dish towel and pitched in with the clean up. I was blessed... Heck, maybe I was a Southerner in another life. :)

We have Cyrus Webb & Facebook to thank for our meeting.

    ♥LOVE YA♥

  15. Patricia, I'm so glad to find you here in the Southern Writers Group and on the blog tour! I'm a LOT older than you, but that doesn't matter when we share such common ground. I grew up in Pontotoc, about 20 miles west of Tupelo. All my family is gone now, and I don't get back much, but that place certainly informs my writing. Congrats on your books and your life as a poet. I admire your for pursuing your dream (I'm trying to do the same, but in fiction)!

  19. Great writing about what it is to be a Southerner. I've been enjoying the tour and I especially enjoyed the stop here. There are lots of great Summer things to add too, including watermelon eatin' and lightenin' bug catchin'.

  21. Patricia,
Your poems evoke your love of Mississippi, comfort and tranquility. Yes, the pictures and memories of Mississippi aren't always pleasant but you show another side; the one that evokes hospitality, family and warmth.
